Austria – Oetztal – Piburger Lake – Winter
The winter landscape at Lake Piburg is completely different from the impressions one has here in summer. We start our hike again in the village Ötz and walk from here on the well signposted way up to the Piburger lake.
Last night it snowed about 20 cm. The way is nevertheless good to walk. We are greeted by a winter fairytale landscape. No human soul can be seen far and wide.
Only traces of the game crossing can be seen in the deep snow. Huge boulders, which are snowed on the heads in white, line our way. The trees from the last felling are covered with the white splendour. Huge spruces and firs rise into the blue morning sky.
With their white crowns they look like prehistoric figures. Then Lake Piburg welcomes us in its full winter splendour. Large parts of the lake are completely frozen. The signposts are still covered in white by the nightly snowstorm. View of the snow-covered and frozen Lake Piburg.
As easy as the circular hiking trail around Lake Piburg is in summer, so difficult are the steeper passages now. Caution is advised, as a slip into the lake at temperatures far below freezing becomes dangerous. At this time of year you have the lake to yourself. No visitors are to be seen far and wide. So we can enjoy the winter landscape to the full. View of the snow-covered Piburger lake in winter.
