Trulli are round houses with stone roofs. The cantilever vault tapers towards the top. Most have a symbolic capstone on top of the roof, called Zippus. Sometimes these keystones are also designed as spheres or other symbols.

The trulli are built without mortar. The massive natural stones with thick walls and the small windows are perfect against the often strong summer heat.
